Real, Austere, and as Salty as the Sea

In 1999, twenty windmill palm trees were imported to Sweden and dug down into a small strip of sand. The city of Helsingborg wanted to accentuate its continental location with a Tropical Beach. For 24 years, the palm trees have been moved between beach and winter storage, for the enjoyment of the city's inhabitants. This northern tropical scenography reveals a double essentialism where ideas of an authentic here are positioned against an elsewhere wrapped in imagination.
